2019 Autumn – Conference season for the Datatonic Machine Learning team!

Autumn is conference season in the BigData and AI wold, which gives the Datatonic team a great opportunity to explore the latest advances in the field, discuss recent trends and share our findings with you. Oliver, our Head of Machine Learning, will share some of our newest insights on at these events in London. Across the Atlantic, Will, our ML Captain and Laxmi, our Senior Data Scientist have presented their research at the exciting new TensorFlow World conference in Santa Clara.

Check out our past and upcoming event talks below!

Strata data conference

Strata is a 4-day conference with a very complete agenda including a full list of training, tutorials, keynotes, and sessions scheduled. In this past event close to our UK headquarters, Datatonic was present with a talk on a hot topic: Deep Recommender Systems.

Our Head of ML, Oliver, walked the audience through the latest and newest approaches in the field. He also explained how to implement some of these novel models in TensorFlow, starting from a collaborative filtering approach and extending that to more complex deep recommender systems. Here you can find all the details and materials of his talk.

Find out more about how we use Recommender Systems in our Case-studies page.

TensorFlow World

Digital property of TensorFlow.

In Santa Clara, two Datatonites were present in the TensorFlow focused conference. TensorFlow is an end-to-end open source platform for machine learning, specialised in neural networks, but used broadly in many applications. Many real-world machine learning applications require generative or reductive sampling of data. In this conference, our machine learning experts, Laxmi Prajapat and William Fletcher, explored some sampling techniques in the context of recommender systems, using tools available in the tf.data API, and detailed which methods are beneficial with given data and hardware demands.

Big Data LDN

Big Data LDN is an experience oriented conference, gathering knowledge from around the world on practical steps that organisations should take, their advices and insights on best practice and hard-won lessons on what works and what to avoid.

Productionising machine learning pipelines can be a daunting and difficult task for Data Scientists. Fortunately, many novel tools and technologies have become available in the past years to address this issue and make it easier than ever to deploy ML models into production, without the need to configure servers. In this session, Oliver described some of the best serverless options on how to operationalise ML pipelines within the Tensorflow ecosystem and on Google Cloud Platform, based on actual case studies.

Open Data Science Conference (ODSC) London

ODSC is a learning conference, and with 3 complete days of content, it is essential for anyone who wants to connect to the data science community and contribute to the open source applications. Being a very requested topic, Oliver will bring back his talk on “ML in production: serverless and painless” previously presented at ODSC (above).

The official materials that will be used at this talk can be found here.

Google Cloud NEXT London

Google Cloud next is one of the largest Google Cloud events taking place in EMEA. It’s an opportunity for industry leaders, technology innovators and software developers come together to hear how Google Cloud is helping businesses, share ideas and get hands-on experience with the latest GCP tools.

On the Google Cloud NEXT stage we will walk you through and exiting project that helped one of our clients to reduce packaging in their stores by putting AI directly into consumers hands.

3rd Annual Digital Commodities Exchange

S&P Global Platts is one of the leading independent provider of information, benchmark prices and analytics for the energy and commodities markets, including price reporting for the oil market, but also metals, agriculture, shipping, and all energy-related markets. Oliver will discuss how Machine Learning can bring value for commodity businesses and how use case attribution can be assigned. Don’t miss his talk at 3:30pm under the session “Learning Innovative Streams – Stream 2”.

Our Digital Commodities Exchange will explore and the decipher the impact of optimizing historical data, integrating data from multiple sources, breaking down silos between business units and functions, setting data-governance standards, and deciding where the most important opportunities may lie. The underlining question we will be asking is how realistic are these requirements to pave the foundation for AI, Big Data, IoT and Blockchain? – S&P Global Platts

Are you attending one of the events? We’d love to connect with you, so let our team know on hello@datatonic.com.

Did you miss our session but would like to learn more about the topic? Send us a request here and we will share the material where possible.
